John has been a professional artist and art teacher for over 30 years, and has a diverse body of work from photo-realism to heavy impasto impressionism to surreal abstracts. Included in the exhibit is one of a series of portraits John painted of immigrant students. The 28-portrait series and their accompanying life stories have been displayed at community centers, libraries, public schools, colleges and universities over the last ten years. An ex-president of the Stanwood Camano Arts Guild, John has served as an Artist-in-Residence for several school districts, has drawn over a thousand pencil portraits, and has worked with students to create large paneled landscapes for their schools. "Painting is a creative exploration of colors and ideas, techniques and response. The give and take can be playful to downright ludicrous, as challenging as a 10,000 paint-stroke puzzle, and whose end can be as slippery as sea lettuce." John Muhler Gallery in the Loft and Islander's Restaurant are located just 5 minutes West of Stanwood at Camano Commons, 848 North Sunrise Boulevard, on Camano "no ferries" Island.
